Exactly one month ago, I wrote of our heartbreaking news of losing Sandi. Even though I still shed tears about that, we have opened our hearts and home to someone else that needed us. His name is Monty and he is about 2 to 2 1/2 years old. He is a yellow lab who is VERY overweight. He is starting Labrador version of Jenny Craig this week.
We adopted him thru Arizona Labrador and Large Breed Rescue. I really wanted to go thru a rescue rather than adopting straight from the county shelter since our son is so small. I wanted to be very careful what dog we brought home. He was rescued by them from the Apache Junction animal control where he was picked up as a stray (though he couldn't have been stray for long as he clearly hasn't missd many meals). He is a sweetheart though who loves the boys. He loves to play fetch and tug of war with our older son. He hasn't figured out what to do with the baby so he just licks him. He loves to swim and is hilarious as his big body displaces alot of water with his version of a cannonball. He was delighted to take his first swim today with Kevin.
Bogart seems to think he is pretty okay. There is a little bit of pouting but so far no flair up of the stomach problems he has been having the last few weeks due to depression and the stress of losing Sandi. Monty was a good boy left alone in the house today with Bogart for an hour and a half. We tried putting him into a kennel and he was barking quite a bit (so much for crate training). He mastered the doggie door in less than a minute ( I was shocked that he fit thru our doggie door as he is so fat!). So, we are going to try to see how he does tomorrow with Bogart and I will come home at lunch to check on them- please pray that I find them both sleeping the day away!!! Monty knows sit and down but needs to learn leash manners. It is very luxurious to have a lab now that likes other dogs and I don't have to be afraid to walk him in public! Though, with it being 115 today, he will stick to swimming for now.
