Lost and alone in this world, as so many other
stray dogs,  Sundance was turned into the local
animal shelter.  He patiently waited in his lonely
cell for someone to come and take him home, but no one did.

With his time running short, Arizona Labrador & Giant Breed Rescue
(ALGBR) was notified that this sweet boy had no place to go.  He was
going to be ALGBR’s first rescue.  While waiting to be neutered, he
contracted kennel cough, forcing him to stay in his cell for an even longer
time before he could be placed into our rescue.

As he showed signs of overcoming kennel cough, his health took a turn for
the worse.  It was the Sunday morning after Thanksgiving when we were
called about his declining health and his desperate need for medical care.
With only $500 in the Rescue’s checking account, we made the decision
that he would get whatever care was needed to save him, even at the
expense of emergency medical care.   With IV fluids he appeared to be
improving.  With the little strength he had, he lifted his head as if to say
‘thank you’.  He spent the night under a vet's  care, but it was not enough.
He died early the next morning.  He spent the night being warm and with
people that cared.  It was a big loss for us, especially since he was our very
first rescue.

We have named him Sundance because he deserves a name and he will be
a reminder to us to rescue all that we can, regardless of time, energy and
expense.   As a result of his death, we saw a huge benefit to being able to
help detect early signs of illness, therefore, ALGBR is scheduling a seminar
that will focus on first aid for dogs as well as recognizing early signs of
illness.  If you are interested in attending, watch our website for future
details.   If you are interested in
volunteering, there are many like Sundance
that are in need of your help.

If you are interested in donating, it will help us to give many of these dogs
the veterinary care they need.  He is gone, but we will not let him be
forgotten.
