Every Christmas we bring a dog into our rescue that really could use our help. Last Christmas, we rescued a beautiful 2-1/2-year-old yellow lab girl named Bella who was brought to the vet by her elderly owner to be euthanized. The vet convinced the owner to surrender Bella to them and they would then work on getting a rescue to take her. That's when we were informed of Bella's plight and decided we absolutely needed to take her.
So what prompted her owner to euthanize her? Bella, like many labs, is full of energy and really needed structured training early on which caused some unwanted behaviors. I suppose in her owner's mind, she felt Bella would be traumatized and suffer at the pound and euthanization would therefore be the kindest thing she could do.
ALGBR not only takes sick or senior dogs, but we also take dogs that just need a new start. We've had a few dogs like this in rescue and with some time and training, they have proven to be wonderful companions that were very worthy of a second chance.
What we know about Bella is that she is very sweet with people and very smart. She likes the water and will swim and retrieve balls from the pool. Bella cannot be in a home with small dogs, cats, or other small animals. Kids over 10 should be fine. She is possessive of her toys and food so she will need some training and caution in those areas if another dog lives in the home.
Bonus: Bella's adoption fee also includes in-home training paid for by ALGBR!
If you'd like to adopt Bella, please fill out an application on our website www.azlabsandgiants.org. You can also learn about our adoption process while you are there and make a donation. We are so glad that we were able to save Bella and give her a Christmas miracle. I mean, look at that face!
All ALGBR dogs have had a basic vet wellness check, are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, are heartworm tested and microchipped as part of the adoption fee.
