Fostering: How You Can Help Our Rescues
ALGBR needs caring, responsible dog lovers to join our foster home team by
opening their hearts to our rescues.  All our rescues experienced abandonment,
abuse, or other hardships.  We are only able to save a life if we have a place for him
to go, a foster home.   Would you consider saving a rescue's life by fostering
one?

Hundreds of beautiful Labrador Retrievers and Giants are abandoned or
surrendered each year in the Phoenix metro area.  ALGBR could not save many of
them without our foster families.  The majority of our Rescues we save find
sanctuary in one of our foster homes, giving us the time to find each Rescue a safe,
loving, forever home.

Who a Foster Is:

An ALGBR foster is someone who opens their heart and home and agrees to give
temporary shelter to a Rescue.  Most families foster each ALGBR Rescue for an
average of 1-2 weeks, but we never know how long it may take for our Rescues to
find their forever homes.  You can let us know what type of Rescue you'd like to
foster, (breed, age, size, sex, activity level, etc.,) and how many dogs you would like
to foster.  You choose which Rescue and when you want to foster.

We will do everything we can to accommodate you and your family.  We provide a
great support team, vast amounts of expertise and just a friendly voice when
needed.  Each dog that is fostered is made more adoptable and easier to place into
a family. The foster home is the first step for our Rescues after being turned over to
ALGBR.    These Rescues deserve the opportunity to learn that life can be a lot
better than what they have been experiencing.

By being a foster home, you become their savior.  It's remarkable to see how these
dogs change just after short periods of time in foster.  Your input into placement is
invaluable for their long term happiness.

What Foster Homes Do:

Provide Sanctuary:  Give your foster Rescue a safe place to live while he's up for
adoption.  You will be responsible for food, water, and shelter.

Give Hugs and Kisses:  When your foster Rescue first meets you, he may be
disoriented and feeling out of sorts. He has been though a lot to get to this point.
Love him up and let him know that everything will be OK.

Learn Who He/She Is:  After your foster Rescue gets a little more comfortable,
spend some time getting to know him.  Learn the Rescue's personality to help
determine what forever home best suits him.

Coordinate Healthcare:  All vet bills are paid by ALGBR, and emergency visits are
reimbursed by ALGBR.

Teach House Manners: Help your foster Rescue become "family friendly."
Rescues have good intentions, but may need a bit of basic obedience and indoor
etiquette.  After all, they may have never been shown how to be a member of a
family.

Help Find A Forever Home: You are your foster's best advocate.  Talk with
“approved for adoption” families about your foster and meet families that may be a
fit.  The ALGBR adoption coordinator and /or HV volunteer will help.
